About Marcia DeVoe

I left my native Montana to attend Pratt Institute on a drawing scholarship in the early 90s, after which I illustrated ancient artifacts at different excavations in the Mediterranean and for various scholarly publications. In the past two decades, I have focused on private art and illustration commissions, as well as work for my own pleasure. I am proud that my art lives in the homes and offices of prominent writers, producers, artists, academics, and philanthropists. I paint at my home studio on our hobby farm outside of Millbrook, NY.

I love the detail inherent in mixed-media realism. I love a juicy passage in oils. Nature turns me on. I find portraits of people a delight to paint, but I enjoy just as much portraits of animals and special places and the objects that tether our hearts. Realism allows me to play with and pay homage to the animism of the material world.
